Connectors must withstand high temperatures, high shock and vibration. They must also be small and light enough to fit inside the drill pipe and flawlessly transfer data up to controls.
Omnetics uses epoxies and wires rated for high temperatures in addition to their patented Flex Pin mating system. The Flex Pin is made from beryllium copper plated in nickel and gold.
Circular connectors are popular due to their optimal size, weight, and shape. Micros are spaced on 50 mil (1.27mm) centerlines, and Nanos are spaced on 25 mil (.64 mm) centerlines.
