The new fleet: Schmidbauer invests in the expansion of its own

26 May 2020

A number of new models will be added to the Schmidbauer fleet of construction machinery equipment in 2020/2021. Particular emphasis will be placed on both innovative and future-oriented cranes. Above all, hybrid crane models are proving to be attractive to customers and future-centric. Through the expansion of the range with this high-performance equipment, Schmidbauer is even better equipped and prepared to accept the variety of new challenges of the national and international market.

Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane

Since the beginning of April, the Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane has supplemented the equipment in the Schmidbauer fleet. With a length of 85m, it has a very long and yet powerful telescopic boom. The design of the new mobile crane is based on the requirements of the (international) market. The 8-axle crane travels on public roads with a 12-tonne axle load including the entire telescopic boom, all supports, and a complete hoist winch. Therefore it can be quickly and easily mobilized and set up for lifting activities once it reaches the job site. The ballast radius of the LTM 1450-8.1 crane can be reduced to 5 m using a simple hydraulic slewing mechanism so that the crane can be used even in confined conditions. The innovative single-engine concept is also used on the LTM 1450-8.1, with the superstructure being powered by a mechanical shaft in the substructure. Gear shafts are routed from the distributor gear in the substructure via two mitre gears through the centre of the slewing ring to the pump distributor gear in the superstructure. A switchable program is in place for this crane drive concept to ensure that the machine is particularly economical to operate. In ECOmode, the entire pump drive is disengaged automatically when the engine is in idle mode and switched on again in a matter of seconds using the intelligent control when power is required.

Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane

The Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane is designed for maximum performance. With a nominal lifting capacity of 700 tonnes, it can complete hoisting work in the 700-tonne class and even higher. As with the predecessor model, the new crane is available in two telescopic boom lengths: 54m or 80m. Depending on the set up, the lifting capacity increases compared to its predecessor are between 15 and 50 percent depending on whether the telescopic boom includes guying or not. The ballast radius can be infinitely adjusted between 6.3 and 8.4 m using a simple hydraulic slewing mechanism. The 8-axle crane has a total ballast of 175 tonnes. The ballast plates of all LTM large cranes have a uniform configuration and are therefore compatible with each other. The LTM 1650- 8.1 is anticipated to feature the ECOdrive and ECOmode. The ECOdrive makes the mobile crane significantly more comfortable and quieter, and above all sustainable by reducing the engine speed: to minimise fuel consumption on the road, the torque from the diesel engine is used efficiently. In ECOmode, the fuel consumption and noise emissions are also kept to a minimum. Two of these cranes are expected for delivery in 2021.

Liebherr MK88-4.1 mobile crane

Shown at Bauma 2019, the large Liebherr MK88-4.1 mobile crane impresses with its compact size. The new ballast concept means that axle loads of up to 10 tonnes can be achieved by splitting and detaching the ballast, thus fulfilling many strict national regulations. Heavy work is still possible thanks to the customised load curve. The reduction of the support width to 5.75 m and the halfsided support feature enable the mobile crane to be used on streets and construction sites in confined areas, amongst other places. The special advantage for Schmidbauer: thanks to the electric drives on the MK88-4.1, the crane not only has low noise emissions and is environmentally friendly in operation but it is also extremely effective in night operations. The detection of the load weight and control of the drives of particular lifting weights enable intelligent control of the crane. This results in an automatic increase in the loads by up to 10 percent. With a lifting capacity of up to 2.2 tonnes at the very top, this takes the MK88-4.1 into the next capacity class. The raised jib angles of 15°, 30° and 45° in combination with the telescopic tower are fundamental for variable applications. They enable hook heights of 17.9 to 59.1m.

Spierings SK487 AT3 City Boy mobile crane

The Spierings SK487 AT3 City Boy mobile crane is one of the most compact cranes in the Schmidbauer fleet. The truck's width of 2.50 m and total length of just 13.08 m allows for easy manoeuverability. As its name suggests, the crane is particularly suitable for the city environment. When designing this crane, the planning focused on sustainability and a forward-looking approach. The SK487 AT3 City Boy is powered by a synchronous electric motor. The energy can be supplied from three different sources - fully electric, by diesel engine, or powered by a hybrid. When the crane brakes, the released energy is fed back into the battery. A defining feature is the mobile tower crane with only one cab. It serves as a driver's cab and crane cab in one. Cesab B885 electric powered forklift The Cesab B885 electric powered forklift is a further addition to the fleet. The forklift is particularly popular for heavy-duty applications thanks to the use of powerful, electronically controlled drive motors and the availability of a high battery capacity. With a lifting capacity of 8,500 kg and a height of 2.825 mm, the 4-wheel electric counterbalance truck is a powerful addition for Schmidbauer.

In addition to the models mentioned above, Schmidbauer is also pleased with the following Liebherr vehicles: LTC 1050-3.1, LTM 1060-3.1, LTM 1090-4.2, LTM 1130-5.1, LTM 1230-5.1.
