27 Fatalities in US Mines in 2018

The United States’ Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has reported that the number of mining fatalities in 2018 was the second lowest ever recorded in a year. Nevertheless, 27 people died in mining incidents, with powered haulage causing the highest proportion of deaths (13% or 48%). Among other measures, the MSHA has started an educational campaign to highlight the dangers involved in working with this equipment.
