Fluor's acquisition of Stork in March 2016 created a global provider of knowledge-based maintenance, modification and asset integrity products and services.
The combination of Fluor's engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction capabilities with Stork's maintenance, modification and asset integrity (MM&AI) is a unique means of optimising design, fabrication, construction and maintenance of assets. The result of this shared expertise is a service portfolio that maximises operational performance and strengthens clients' competitiveness by realising greater capital efficiencies. A single organisation is now also able to provide the full range of services for an operating plant's entire life cycle, thereby reducing the requirement for multiple contractors and interfaces.
The extra value of combining services is evident from the start of a project. Stork's maintenance expertise can be applied at an asset's conceptual stage and throughout design and construction. This improves operational performance while reducing maintenance costs. A seamless turnover from construction to supporting commissioning and start-up is provided on site, as well as regular maintenance, which allows a single organisation to maintain a continuous presence.
Combining Stork and Fluor's operations and maintenance activities has created an organisation of approximately 19,000 employees, serving more than 4,000 clients in 100 countries across six continents. This expanded geographic footprint enables worldwide client partnerships and helps business goals to be achieved through a full suite of asset life cycle services.
Striving every day to improve the delivery of products and services in order to to produce tangible benefits for clients is crucial. The expertise shared between Stork's innovation group and Fluor's business transformation and innovation teams - both recognised leaders in their fields - will maximise returns on asset investment.
Key Stork MM&AI innovations include:
Stork is committed to improving its MM&AI services and, now it is part of Fluor, it can accelerate innovation by sharing knowledge on maintenance more broadly and gain new insights from best practices from the capex phase of an asset life cycle. Through this collective knowledge and by learning from its clients, Stork can improve the performance and longevity of assets, which will eventually reduce overall production costs.
Commitment to safety, integrity, teamwork and operational excellence are fundamental to Stork and Fluor. The former's REACH Beyond Zero HSSEQ programme is being rolled out and embedded across the wider MM&AI business, with the new regional leadership team participating in workshops to develop local plans and leading indicators. The programme helps Stork deliver complex projects at the highest standards, without compromising on safety or quality.
