Umbilical cables may be several thousand metres long, requiring significant deck space to accommodate the reel. Appropriately rated winching equipment is also essential to manage the huge combination of cable and load. Reducing cable size does lower the weight, reel size and winch equipment requirements but it cannot be to the detriment of the cable's capacity to serve as an ROV lift cable and withstand the dynamic loads of routine operations.
The latest DE REGT product delivered to Seaway Offshore is a 100ton armoured umbilical designed and manufactured bespoke for their salvaging purposes. It delivers power and data to a water depth in excess of 5.5km. DE REGT's umbilical is 25% stronger than the client's current product, providing more than 20ton of additional strength within the same diameter / dimensions.
